LEVELS OF CARE

Not Sure Which Level of Care You Need?

Understanding Levels of Care: The ASAM Continuum

Outpatient, IOP, and PHP explained simply, plus where non-clinical recovery mentoring fits across the ASAM continuum in Houston.

The ASAM Criteria is the national clinical standard for matching a person to the right level of addiction and mental health care, from early intervention through intensive treatment. Recovery mentoring is a non-clinical recovery support service that complements every level. For clinical levels of care in Houston, including outpatient, IOP, and PHP, we work alongside our sister practice, Heights Behavioral Health.

HOW PLACEMENT WORKS

How the Right Level Is Chosen
A licensed clinician uses a multidimensional, biopsychosocial assessment based on the ASAM Criteria, weighing withdrawal risk, medical and mental health needs, readiness to change, relapse risk, and living environment, then matches you to the least restrictive level that keeps you safe. Heights Behavioral Health provides this clinical assessment in Houston.

WHERE MENTORING FITS

Recovery Mentoring in the Continuum
Recovery mentoring is non-clinical. It is not a numbered ASAM level of care; it is a recovery support service the ASAM Criteria 4th Edition recognizes as part of a recovery-oriented system of care. We carry your plan into daily life and step up or down alongside clinical treatment.
