Outpatient, Levels of Care, and the ASAM Criteria
In addiction and mental health care, a level of care (LOC) describes how intensive support is, from medically managed detox and residential, down through partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) to standard outpatient. Clinicians often use the ASAM Criteria, a multidimensional framework, to match a person to the right level. Clinical levels of care are delivered by licensed providers such as Heights Behavioral Health, which offers PHP and IOP for adults in Houston. Recovery mentoring is non-clinical and works alongside any of these levels, carrying the plan into daily life and adding real-world structure where treatment alone cannot reach.
